Have you seen the 90s Japanese anime with English subs? Much better than the dub šŸ™ˆ

I have!

When I was in Middle School I accidentally bought the entire first season of Sailor Moon on DVD with english subs. It added something new and exciting for me to enjoy about a show that had touched my heart as a young child.

Though I thinkĀ ā€œbetterā€ is somewhat subjective.

The 90s Sailor Moon dub is a delightful time capsule of the culture of the American 90s. Educational requirements for children’s media brought forward the Sailor Moon Says segments, for example. That and the language choice in the dub have forever locked it into an interesting time and place. There’s also the nostalgia factor; I was a little kid when I first got to watch the English dub. I didn’t know it was an anime. I didn’t know it was made in Japan. I just knew that it was about girls being cool.

In short: the 90s dub is silly, but it’s still wonderful. I still love it. I just…also like to make fun of the things I love!

I might re-watch the Japanese version at some point, but I probably won’t live blog it if I do!
