setting idea:
the kingdom’s royalty is always just and righteous, but it’s because it’s got a literal divine mandate. as the old royal dies, a beam of golden light, visible through the entire kingdom, falls from the sky, and onto the next elect king.
divine wisdom has it that the queen is something the country always needs, and that they’re smart and resilient enough to carry out their duties until old age. only they can harness the power of the kingdom’s regalia, the helmet, the bell and the millstone. their name is never spoken again – instead, they become known as who they were before attaining royalty – the baker-king, the smith-queen, the beekeeper-royal. in one lucky case, the gods had chosen a man about to be executed, the rogue-king, revealing that he’d opposed the tyrannical land rulers by stealing money they gained from unlawful taxation and distributing it back to their oppressed subjects.

Liam: What’s your blood type?
Vicky: How would I know?
Liam: How would you not?!
Vicky: Who am I, Karl Landsteiner, discoverer of blood groups?
Liam: You don’t know your OWN blood type, BUT YOU KNOW WHO DISCOVERED THEM?!
So in a Realm romcom game I have brewing things are looking up and I’ve barely started. The first session takes place during a gala located in a house Peleps estate with a huge garden specialising in cherry trees who are in full bloom right now.
One of the suitors has become so dead set on proving himself in first impressions that he’s essentially made a separate additional food table ontop existing catering. Made from scratch by local markets on the spur of the moment to prove his worth and reputation as a great chef of blessed isle.
Meanwhile the pretty Ragara lady has bought lavish gifts and great expenses and brings all the charm that the dragonblooded are famous for to the gala and an exquisite sense of fashion.
A Mnemon sorceress with a heart far too big than the stereotype of her house and kin would lead you to believe is one of the hopeful. She approaches with humility and the hopes of stimulating intellectual discussions to sway the affection of the lady of the hour at the gala. And yet she finds her exploits hard to believe and is if nothing else interested in having light shed on the young daughter of house Peleps.
And then there’s the Scion of house Tepet. Moving a million miles a minute while everyone else plays catch up. Utterly enamored by the lady’s exploits and her success in saving her house from ruin. She has brought a caravan of gifts, music, sights and delights. And is preparing a full prince Ali procession into the gala.
And rounding the group of suitors off is the Bertie Wooster of house Cathak. A hobbyist in the field of law and would make for a great magistrate if he asserted himself, but a life in luxury is too tempting. He has joined the group of suitors on the behest of his aunt to attempt to make the Peleps girl marry him and ally with house Cathak. And he intends to come out strong… And land a second place so he can carry on his lifestyle and claim that he did his best.
And I love every second of all of this. It’s a full on time game right here.
