The Dreams of Cynis Deris

He dreams in ciphers; the patterns of code and subterfuge and meanings that lie beneath the underneath of the words. While awake he is no good at turning a phrase to have someone spill their guts to him as if he were their closest friend, but he remembers what they wore, what they smelled like, if their shoes matched their dress one part of the evening, but were switched with someone else’s later in the evening. In his dreams he can tell someone that he knows exactly where they’ve gone and who they’ve been with, and have them as putty in his hands, ready to give up a more damning secret that they know.

So in love with my Lunar, Sarangerel! She’s an Icewalker based on a ye olde fantasy Mongolian shaman, whose spiritual shape is an Elk. She’s currently bumming it around the Southwestern seas with a group of unscrupulous pirates (including another Lunar, her Solar girlfriend, and a very dignified Abyssal who thinks they’re all idiots). 

I’ll admit, she’s a muscle wizard! She doesn’t have any real weapons besides her magic and her shapeshifting. When she’s not casting (and more often failing to cast) her sorcery spells, she’s punching spirits in their incorporeal faces.

WHAT FLOWS THROUGH YOUR VEINS?
the blood of a giant. she slumbers under a mountain and as the rock crumbles she sighs in her sleep, pulling dirt closer like a living blanket, she breathes in earth like oxygen, safe, safe while she sleeps.

WHAT FLOWS THROUGH YOUR VEINS?
starlight. rivers of it, shifting liquid starlight drawn from the sky into my skin, there is starlight in these arteries, thick like glue, a shade of purple mixed from glitter paint and day old bruises.

WHAT FLOWS THROUGH YOUR VEINS?
salt water from the sea. yes my body ebbs and flows with the tide, and it stings like salt, like teeth sinking in against an open wound but salt is a natural antiseptic and as much as it hurts in the short term, in the long term this ocean is pure.

WHAT FLOWS THROUGH YOUR VEINS?
it may be easier to ask me what doesn’t. i carry more than the world with each heartbeat, from the earth to the sky to the seas; inside me is legion.
