klapollo:

i found out last night that theyre dubbing (dubbed?) moana in hawaiian w auli’i reprising the role so thats interesting

I’ve seen some of the behind the scenes stuff for this and Auli’i talks a lot about how it’s been helping her get more engrossed in her native language.

Also they rewrote “You’re welcome” because of the structure of Hawaiian is very particular about the varied meanings of that idiom so the lyrics in English don’t make any sense. It’s very cool.

Okay, at this point there has to be something wrong with me, right? I’ve watched this 20 times in the last half hour, I still don’t know what they are saying half the time, but it doesn’t seem to matter because i’ve been crying my eyes out laughing for the entire last half hour …

what the fuck is this from i gotta know

it’s called letterkenny and it’s about a man who gets dumped and then goes on to shirk his pacifism and reclaim and hold his title as the toughest dude in the rural town of letterkenny ontario. every episode cold opens like this in increasingly bizarre ways.

I read the bit about not being able to parse what’s being said and then I read the bit about it being set in this fuckin province, and I thought, like, what kind of accent could they possibly use that was so incomprehensible while still setting it in northern goddamn

Ontario? and actually, okay, you know what, despite having lived immersed in it my entire life I’m not sure i’ve ever seen this exact accent on tv before, it is just weird to see actors using it

My cousins grew up with the guy who wrote this show and is the main actor. It’s scary accurate for hick town Ontario (it’s based on the town of Listowel) and apparently some of the characters are based so closely on real people that they’ve recognized themselves while watching.

Distribute some free literature.

I lived near Ontario in rural NY and we picked up this sort of similar affect. It’s so scary how true-to-life this is in that area of the contintent

I’m just gonna leave a link to season one episode one right here…

SEASON THREE PREMIERES THIS CANADA DAY

I AM PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

THAT WAS THE GREATEST ALLITERATIVE MASTERPIECE I HAVE EVER SEEN

i was wondering if we could hear more about Nikalon, he is so cute and his costumes are amazing

kookriart:

Sure!

Nikalon’s my character for an Exalted game, he’s basically a pampered narcissistic aristocrat who I went all in on charisma and appearance with. I never played Exalted before but it’s meant to be kind of larger than life, so I figured it’d be fun to draw from the myth of Narcissus and add a peacock theme. So the big idea is that he’s totally self obsessed, for better and worse. I’ve been meaning to do some even more flamboyant and elaborate outfits for him sometime, really form over function, to hammer home the idea that he cares way more about presentation than pragmatism. For his costumes I’d like to go for exotic oriental stuff, maybe some blend of Ottoman, Indian and Chinese. Decadent, lots of jewels and gold, very conspicuous.

I also used some of his merits on chargen to have a crowd of sycophants who follow him around praising him (he likes that), and they’re the ones who carry his baggage train of clothing. He’s imperious and haughty, he thinks he’s better than everyone, though I try to keep him a little nicer to the rest of the party, seeing as they’re all Exalts as well, and most of them could kick his ass. Still, he has it in his head that he’s responsible for his followers and friends – he doesn’t like it when they act out of line because it reflects poorly on him, but he also takes insults to them personally for the same reason, so he stands up for them. He’s also really susceptible to being bullshitted by people who talk him up, because of course he’d believe anyone who told him how great he is.

I wanted to have him be a more cheerful counterweight to Song of Swords character who some of my longer term followers might recognize, the plague doctor Rozalia, who is pretty honestly a totally wretched miserable person (I still love her). So instead of bleak and macabre he’s bright and pleasant. For all of Rozy’s dark cynical grumbling Nikky is colourful, optimistic and outspoken.

And fabulous.

He’s fabulous.

what caste is he? I wasn’t sure from the earlier drawings if he was actually a peacock Lunar? (I have a peacock-totem Lunar and so I automatically love them, though Nik also sounds like a great Solar)

I just love his design a lot and he sounds really fun to play 🙂
