11: Their Family Life

Prior to Exalting, young Cynis Mayumi didn’t really get along too well with much of her family. Her parents paid her little personal attention, her extended family found her a little odd (she liked to spend a bit too much time alone), and as she grew into an adult and gained siblings her youngest sister was outright nasty towards her.
She found solace, growing up, in her cousins Satire and Irony who treated her with kindness and compassion that she didn’t get elsewhere. She was also especially close to Cynis Belar Rokujai, her uncle, though his work kept him busy enough that he wasn’t around. The only immediate family member that she was fond of was her brother Yujii. He was small and kind and soft spoken and they bonded. When he went to study sorcery, she promised she’d write him every day.

Now that she’s nearly 40 and has exalted as a Solar/fled the Isle things have changed. She’s had the opportunity to forge a new family, while simultaneously melding into the family that once belonged to her past life. Sherwood’s Mom is just Mom to her. Sherwood’s daughters are her own as far as she’s concerned. She’s met four people who’ve stolen her heart and has two kids that she dotes on. She also has come to see the party as family.
Recently her mother has shown back up in her life and has been attempting to make amends. It’s going alright, they’re on speaking terms now. Forgiveness is a long path and Marian wants to have a big happy family.

17: Their Ambitions

Marian has a great many ambitions. Her biggest one growing up was always to prove to her family that she was worth something, without giving up on her desires for true love and despite never becoming the Dragonblood her parents really wanted.
Post exalting, after seeing Sherwood’s memories and glimpses of the glories of the First Age, Marian put it on herself to follow in the footsteps of the Hero of Heroes and work to fix Creation. She wants to bring it back to its prime; to save the land from the claws of the Neverborn and the treacherous Deathknights. She wants to push back the Fae.

She wants to Free the Yozi.

Demon Blood + Dating an Infernal + Compassion 5 + Fond Memories of Time Spent in Hell = a certain compassion for the imprisoned former Primordials. She thinks she can find a way to fix them (for they are broken); not bring them back to who they were, but to help them become something new and good. While restoring Creation to the Glory of the First Age is super important to her, it’s almost starting to pale in comparison to wanting to bring peace and happiness to the Yozi (without harming anyone in the process, naturally).

On a simpler note, Marian just wants to make the world a safe place for her and her loves to settle down and enjoy life with their kids and each other. She wants to build a strong and loving family unit that works to support and encourage each other.

21: How they React to Pain

Differently, depending on the pain?
Note: all answers imply intent to harm. Accidents are handled differently

Physical: Curses and screaming and fury. The more you hurt Marian the more likely she is to take another step and knock your teeth out. Sabriel, the party medic (and tbh party Mom), is unamused by this.
Exception: Consensual pain

Emotional: Crying. SO much crying. Angry crying or sad crying, take your pick. Nothing defeats Marian quite like emotional pain. She’s still likely to punch things but she’s more likely to hide herself away and let that hurt simmer in her tears.

25: Why I Enjoy Them

To some degree, every character I make is a facet of myself, so they allow me to explore myself and my feelings safely while still being separated enough that I have fun not getting to be me for a while.

Marian is fun because she’s very cool and confident. She’s a professional adult who has been through a lot and who often has to wrestle with a ton of responsibility; but does pretty well at managing it all. I’m terrified of adulting, so its nice to play a character who seems to know what they’re doing.

Marian’s also a gigantic flirt. She sleeps around a lot and is unashamed of that. Furthermore, it doesn’t stop her from having a lot of loving romantic relationships. I’m kind of quiet and awkward and while the thought of having a lot of sexual partners is exciting, I’m not actually sure how comfortable I am with that. Marian lets me explore all of that safely.

She’s also just fun and silly and melodramatic.

And maybe a really good outlet for some of my emotional issues.
