I really appreciate how Exalted makes you define your character’s goals (see motivation and intimacies)

It really helps my characters develop because I have to know what they want out of life; what drives them and shapes them so I can come to better understand their methods for achieving that

As a gm I always have players do this anyways but its an excellent thing to have on the sheet 😀

You do this like with other rpgs? Neat!

Exalted is the only rpg I’ve found where the goals are set before we really play, and I’ve found that my goals in Exalted are almost more dynamic because as the character grows their ideas and goals change.

In other RPGs I’m thrown in so fast that my characters often don’t have goals from the start? Not immediately, but usually within the first session they have goals. They tend to be shorter term at first, with bigger goals revealing themselves through play.

The five maidens hold between them the principle things that are Fated, yes? If there was a sixth maiden, what do you think is missing from the five?

I don’t know if I think anything is missing, but the presence or lack thereof of a Sixth Maiden has always been something of an interesting subject.

I read something somewhere about a Sixth Maiden but I don’t remember anything about her, other than the idea that she was younger than the rest and different, in an eerie sort of way. The thought of her is unsettling, but I can’t seem to recall much else.

I also read something of a Brother who may or may not have existed as a sixth. I remember him being disliked. I remember him being not very nice. I remember a rumor that he is now the loom itself, a punishment for some crime against his sisters.

I think on these things sometimes, but never for long and they’re hardly remembered.

Does Sweeper play Minecraft? If so, how does he play or what does he build?

Sweeper plays Minecraft, I think.

He has Forge turned on and lots of mods; most of which are aesthetic or add more variety to the game.

He makes complex redstone structures with logic switches and command blocks to do amazing things. They are often as pretty to look at as they function.

I feel like he’s the kind of kid who, with the help of Hestus, would build the scale model of Westeros in Minecraft; but complete with all sorts of fancy working mechanisms like the gates and elevators at the Wall, or the Moon Door.

If you were going to make one design change to Fallout 4, what would it be?

Do I only get one?

Well, then I suppose first and foremost I would give some way to identify where one has left their companions. I seem to have lost track of Dogmeat after he was called in for a quest and now I cannot find him. This is distressing, as I would like to go back to having him as my companion.

Want more Design talk? It got long, read under the cut!

Other design changes I would make include:

 – Making the speech responses less ambiguous
Fallout 4, while introducing full player character voice acting, has fallen into an issue I have mostly experienced with Bioware games where the select-able dialogue choice does not always accurately reflect what the player will actually end up saying. This can cause immersion problems, as misinterpreted choices can lead to the player feeling like their character’s behavior is now distinctly out of character. I also find, personally, that the limitation of speech options as well as the lack of the special perk/skill based speech options limit the game in that respect.

– Fixing peevey issues with the crafting system
One of the things I love about Fallout 4 is the extensive crafting and building systems that really allow you make it your own. I spend much of my time improving my weapons and building up my settlements. My issue here, is most prevalent in Sanctuary.
In Sanctuary when you are cleaning up the town for supplies, thee are a few houses that can be scrapped in their entirety leaving only the foundation. This foundation is lovely and should work as a nice building spot, but unlike player placed foundations, walls will not snap to these. This, combined with the fact that the available walls are either too small or too large to take up the entire lot is distressing. I’m also annoyed that there is no nice option to fix up the remaining houses, or to modify the spaces within.
Additionally, while I’m aware that this is a post apocalyptic scenario and the resources you are gathering are coming from things like dirty ashtrays and the glass from discarded Nuka Cola bottles, I don’t see why everything new you build also has to look as though it is in ruins. Honestly, is it too much to ask for a bed with bed sheets, even if it costs additional cloth to make? Even if the bed sheets look like they are just sewn together from scraps of all these prewar clothes I’ve been finding? Is it too much to ask for my picket fences to look like someone put actual care into their construction?
Can I use the cans of paint I’ve seen lying around to actually paint my stuff?
Beyond all of this, I would also say that there are situations where the building feels rather limited. There are structures or furniture options that feel like they should be there but aren’t. The best example of this is while you can craft your own Terminal, it comes on its own stand. They offer a variety of nice desks and such but you cannot place your terminal on it. You also are limited to making shops out of wood like lemonade stands rather than utilizing pre-built structures with counter tops and nice layouts.
And, honestly, I’d really like the ability to scrap more things. There’s a pile of leaves or something on the floor of the Starlight Drive-In’s concessions that is ugly, and a lot of the dead bushes in Sanctuary are displeasing.

– Sorting my Inventory
The armor and weapons systems in Fallout 4 are excellent, but it has led to me hoarding a lot of weapons and clothing articles that aren’t particularly useful to me. As a visual person, it’s important to be able to sort things into specific categories in order to filter out what isn’t necessary. Weapons could be sorted by their ammo type, which would allow me to hang onto just enough weaponry to be prepared without carting around redundant Sniper Rifles (which is what I’m fairly certain I’m doing).
Armor is my biggest issue. Armor has several parts: Under armor, chest piece, two arm pieces, two leg pieces, helmet, eyes, and mouth. There’s no clear indication what works as Under armor (and honestly I’ve found my options there to be very limited) or what takes up multiple slots leaving a lot of your effective over armor useless. If I could sort by category I could better equip myself.
I also don’t understand why I can’t wear my leg protectors and harness with a dress but whatever. I’m over it.

– Making your friendships feel more important
Recently I’ve been travelling with Piper in an effort to gain her affections. I wanted to date her, because she’s great. When the time finally came for that it felt very…lacking. You never have any physical interaction with your companions. There’s no hugging no option for them to sit with you for a quiet moment on a couch somewhere. At least Dogmeat can do tricks and feels like he cares about you when he brings you things or guides you to treasures you might have missed. He’s the most alive out of all of the companions for this reason.
I’d like to see the ability to do more with your companions. I’ve seen them do things on their own, give me the option to hang out with them. I’m human too.

– More use of the player name
I was very excited when Fallout 4 announced that they had been recording a list of names to be spoken in the game. This level of immersion is excellent; or it would have been. Presently, I’ve only ever heard Codsworth say Marlowe’s name and I’m not around him enough for that to matter anymore. I had been hoping that other companions, or even my own character would use their name in introductions or in reference. Instead, this is not the case and it’s a bit disappointing. Just this one act would add a lot of immersion that is important to games like these.

– Telling me what the heck a ‘!’ means
Sometimes when viewing your Settlements/Workshops, a ‘!’ will be displayed inside of a triangle beside the name of the Workshop. Investigation into this will show the same symbol beside a particular category. Nowhere have I found does it tell you what the problem really is. Is it that someone is not assigned at a structure that could affect this? Is this category insufficient for the number of settlers? Is the workshop area in peril? We just don’t know!

– Make Valentine Datable
Let me date the Noir Detective Robot

What’s your favourite Fallout extra so far? (Extra in the exalted sense, some minor bit player who shows up for a short time.)

Ashes the Cat

jkjk

Right now it’s a Toss up between the Robot who works at the school in Diamond City and Austin out in Vault 81

Both of their characters are absolutely charming and they’re people (in the broadest sense of the word) that I could see Marlowe really being friends with, which is important to this decision for some reason

What would Hope think about Terror or Solit?

They’re small but strong and I think they both are trying to be good/do the right thing so Hope would take no issue. She admires young ones who are brave enough to go forth and fight for what they believe in.

Of course, should Solit look at Hestus the wrong way, well Hope might just break her vows. Kid’s an innocent little thing, she won’t let Solit corrupt him.

I feel like she’d get along with Knott and his family in general, they hold a lot of similar viewpoints, that sort of ‘protection as a duty’ thing. Idk

ryumarumg replied to your post: Oh my god I’m caught up on every show …

If you haven’t watched it yet, may I recommend Gatchaman Crowds?

You may, but I have to say I’m very picky about starting anime, as it’s often a much larger commitment than I’m willing to make. I’m also a bit of a butt and prefer dubs because I like to do things while I watch and I’m not fluent in Japanese.

I’m also just dumb and picky with anime in a way that I’m very much…not with literally any other televised media.

You want me to give it a shot, I need a good pitch and an interesting episode somewhere in the middle of the series that will make me really want to get into it.
