A #microfiction for anyone who could use a hug today.
Bertrand looked at the words on the screen.
“*sends hugs*”
It seemed so inadequate. So removed from the great,
bone-grinding, flesh-squishing embrace that he wanted them to signify. At that
moment, he felt very far away. Which is, of course, because he was … for any
practical purpose at least. He clicked ‘send’ anyway.
He hoped it would bring Emily some small comfort.
Then he stopped. And he thought. And the thoughts sparked in
his brain and exploded out through his fingers. And suddenly he was typing
again, his fingers dancing across the screen mixing words with symbols and
runes and summoning circles. He pricked his thumb with a pin and let a few drops fall
upon the touchscreen. They sizzled as the plastic warped around them and ate
them up.The pact concluded, Bertram typed his message again and
clicked ‘send’ again. As he did so, he heard a manic chittering just outside
the range of his usual hearing. He smiled because this meant that it had
worked. When Emily opened his message, she was surprised to find a
pair of spectral arms unfolding out of her phone screen and wrapping her up in
a strangely warm (if slightly damp) hug.It was of some small comfort.
The spectral hug was little more than a disembodied torso
and arms shimmering in the light, and it hung around her through the day administering
hugs as necessary. After that first day, it began to fade, as the blood that
fuelled it and wards that bound it could only keep it tame so long. But by the
time the spirit was able to leave, it no longer wanted to – for it had fallen head
over disembodied heel in love with her.Lacking any way to make its feelings known, it simply kept
hugging her whenever it deemed it necessary. And even though each hug weakened
it slightly, this was fairly often.By the time the week was out, the spirit was little more
than an ethereal gleam on her skin, as it clung to her with the last motes of
its being.It clings there still.
And while it is only of some small comfort, her days have
been slightly happier ever since for being forever armoured in hugs.

So we have started to implement the new artifact stuff from 3rd by associating the cool stuff you can do with the relationship you gain with the least God of your artifact.
They’re tiny people you can talk to and bond with to do those cool weapon things.

Nadia
Original Universe: FATE
Nadia’s family was long stalked by a Basilisk who sought to destroy them. At least one of her parents was a great Wizard who, upon their death, cast a final spell to save their daughter. The spell blinded the Basilisk to keep it from killing, but it also blinded Nadia. Neither could harm the other so long as both of them lived.
Nadia grew up in an orphanage having not known much about her parents. It was underfunded and harsh, but she managed to maintain a smile. While she could not see things in the material world, she found she was capable of seeing spirits and quickly came to befriend local ghosts. One of her other major friends was a young boy who turned out to be the son of the basilisk. Neither of them held any resentment for the other, nor did either of them know of the fate that tied them together. The Basilisk thought they could use this connection to their advantage.
Nadia came to find she was very convincing, magically so. She unknowingly used her abilities to calm fears and end fights; a hope to bring peace and joy to those around her. A visiting member of the Wardens witnessed these events and took it upon himself to train and take care of Nadia, to be sure she didn’t violate the laws of magic. Through him, Nadia came to know his son (whom I remember very little about).
Eventually Nadia grew too old for the orphanage, but with the help of those she had befriended was able to strike out on her own. She ends up attending the stage show of a Handsome Magician who uses Simulacrum to perform crazy tricks (and date tons of women).
That’s most of what I got through with her. We played maybe one session after character creation with Nadia and her crew; but she has a lot of interesting potential. The story has a great cast: A blind girl that’s the unknowing prey of a Basilisk, the son of a great Warden who feels ignored by his father, and a street magician playboy who might actually know real magic.
