Okay here’s a new and improved Malachite. She’s tall and toned with four arms and a big heart.

On the left is Lapis; the emotional terraformer who always seems to be crying.

On the right is her girlfriend Jasper. She came out small but beefy and she makes up what she lacks in height with sheer enthusiasm. Jasper is incredibly energetic and excitable, often acting before thinking. Most gems would describe her as “intense” if their being polite.

When fused, Lapis and Jasper work together to balance each other’s personalities. Lapis helps keep Jasper thinking before acting. Jasper keeps Lapis’ anxiety from overwhelming her. Malachite, as a result, is calm, fun, and generally quite understanding.

@blueswapuniverse – You’ve seen Lapis but I’m submitting Jasper and Malachite for kicks and because I love them

After much thought I decided that even though I really love Malachite she can’t really exist as is in the SU universe without being a fusion (and even then she’ll have to change a bit but it’s cool I redesigned her and it’s awesome but I’ll have to find her pic; anyway).

So, here’s half of my new Malachite gemsona: Lapis.
She’s a sensitive soul. On an emotional scale from 1 to 10 she’s crying anywhere but a five. If she ended up on Earth she’d be the kind of gem to lay in a field of flowers all day and watch the stars all night.
She’s full of anxiety and tears and fortunately she’s good enough at her job that she’s been left reasonably alone by the higher ups.

Malachite wise: she ends up falling for a tiny Jasper with a ton of personality that’s very excitable. Jasper jeeps Lapis grounded and boosts her confidence. Lapis keeps Jasper humble and forces her to think before she acts. Together, as Malachite, they wear their heart on their sleeves and strive to be the best gem they can be. With Lapis’ empathy and Jasper’s confidence they manage to do a lot together.

@blueswapuniverse I hope it’s okay I went with a dollmaker for the contest. I might try and draw her later but I’m not confident in my humanoid art skills. If nothing else, this was a great excuse to share my new Gemsona, so thanks!

lesbiangaara:

the biggest problem with pacing in steven universe has nothing to do with the writers at all but entirely to do with cartoon network’s awful scheduling.

when you don’t get any new episodes for weeks or months at a time, and then 5 in a row all of a sudden, it throws off the pacing. things feel weird, rushed, even confusing sometimes.

additionally, when fans have to wait weeks or even months at a time for a new episode, they get impatient and have much less tolerance for the eps they see as “filler” (ie: episodes that aren’t lore centric and don’t necessary resolve major plot points).

and I get it, it sucks to wait 6 to 8 weeks or more for a new episode of a show you enjoy only to have it be a slice of life that doesn’t answer any questions from the last episode that aired weeks ago that was maybe plot oriented. the problem is, writers intentionally put lighthearted episodes in between plot-oriented ones so that viewers don’t feel overwhelmed with too much too fast.

I’ve gone back and rewatched parts of the show that were originally aired in the bomb format and spaced out pretty far from other episodes before them and the pacing felt so much better when I did that. I wish more people would recognize that the pacing problem lies primarily with CN and there refusal to give steven universe a regular time slot.
