Sooo….there are 100 of you now

Gosh I feel like I’m spamming follower dashboards tonight. I’m dreadfully sorry for any inconvenience…

But it’s come to my attention that there are 100 of you following me?

For whatever reason, hello and welcome, I hope you enjoy your stay no matter how long!

I would like to do a giveaway, but I don’t know if anyone would be interested in my talents that I have to offer and I don’t have the best use of a Kitchen to make delicious cakes in jars at the moment…

Give me a bit, maybe I will come up with something…

I really love that every time Dulcie meets a new troll, they point out her horns.

She’s super proud of them though, like they impart special meaning on her.
She’s sure she’ll be useful even in death which is what Phoenix-mom is always stressing.

Cityverse: Magic, In Depth

So I was doing some thinking about how magic works in the City (and I would believe in the rest of the world the City exists in) and I may as well get things fleshed out here.

Info under the cut!

-cut-

I already covered the two types of Magic: Radiation and Inheritance. This should all be straightforward. But different types of magic (element, mind, spirit, fae, etc) work differently. So while you may have two adepts, aside from the magic they wield the way they wield it may also be very different.

Note: This mostly applies only to Adepts as Talents do not usually possess enough power to ‘wield’ in the strictest sense.

So the easiest place to start would be Elemental magic. Stuff like fire, water, wood, air, and earth make up this particular section. Light and shadow also fit into this category. Practitioners of elemental magic will tell you their magic comes from a connection to their element; and whether it’s a mutation from the abilities themselves I’m not sure, but they tend to look the part.

Dulcie, for example, is a fire adept with orange hair. Brittany is a water adept who actually has a set of gills. These sorts of things aren’t uncommon, but it isn’t unheard of for an adept not to show any physical traits of their magic either.

Now, because of their magic’s tactile nature, these elemental magics are typically tied to body movements. For some, this resembles bending. Some adepts even learn a martial art associated with their abilities to better control them. Dulcie, as our example, does not practice in such a way, but her powers are subconsciously tied to her emotions. An angry Dulcie will clench her fists and set herself on fire. A sick Dulcie might start sneezing flames. She’s young and has little control.

That’s what all of this is about though, control. Elemental Adepts believe they can better control their abilities through movement. This is merely a training of the subconscious though; an exercise of will. Truly enlightened adepts know that, even completely bound, they can manipulate their element with a clear head.

This brings up a key fact: wield-able magic requires focus. Dulcie, who lacks focus, tends to set things on fire by accident because she has no control. Her abilities jump out on a whim because she doesn’t try to control them. An angry shadow adept with the same issue might blacken entire buildings in inky darkness, simply because their minds are clouded. Within the City, problems like this are often tackled by quick response teams of better trained individuals, and by teaching these young adepts control.

So what about non-elemental magic users?

Well this depends. If a person doesn’t share the same internal connection to their ability, they will still have problems controlling it. In many cases, adepts with this issue turn to what is known as a Focus. A Focus, is any item through which once may channel their powers. In many works of fictions these function in the form of wands, or orbs, or even books. Some people get more creative. A telekinetic adept might use a puppet to better grasp how he wants to move things. Nolan, an oddball adept with control over ink, has tattoos on his arms that he uses to help direct control with his hands. A technomancer with a love of Doctor Who, might use a model sonic screwdriver. A focus is often personal. The issue is, if the focus becomes lost of broken, the user has difficulty using their magic. This is because in their head: it means their magic is also broken.

There are, of course, inherently magical objects. These objects are constructed by magic users higher on the scale then an Adept. They may also contain materials forged from the pools of magic ((a skill which very few possess)). The only current device of this nature that I have in the world is Pandora’s Box. This small, odd looking box is tied to the soul of the pixie, Pandora. Whoever opens the box, releasing her, is her master until the box is once more closed; pulling Pandora inside, or until the master’s death. In that event, Pandora is free from a master until another such box event occurs. Destroying the box would remove Pandora from existence, sending her energy back to the world of the fae.

The last thing I want to touch on is Witches. Witches are not (usually) adepts, but they are not sorcerers either. Witches are magic users who, while they may not have any powers of their own, can borrow the powers of nearby users temporarily. Witches always require a focus to do this, as they are channeling abilities that aren’t inherently theirs. How far away a witch may borrow powers is tied to how strong the witch is. Very weak witches must be touching another user to borrow their powers. An extremely powerful witch might be mistaken for some sort of God or Sorceress due to the amount and different types of power they can wield.

That’s it for now. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I love talking about this stuff and you might bring up things I hadn’t thought of. Until next time!

I feel a little bad because my schedule doesn’t always allow for me to sit and rp with everyone.
Also because I feel like I’ll wait too long to respond or to answer an open.
Also because I will seemingly randomly drop threads…

If I drop one of your threads, it usually means I don’t know how to respond and by the time I do its been a while and I’m worried I waited too long so I don’t respond so as not to be a huge bother….

I enjoy rp, I’m just used to a slower medium

I have this really old vampire lady character who has been around since the 1400s ((with the lore I’m using Vlad the impaler was the big start of the vampire trend)) but now she lives in the present day.

She sits around and watches cheesy vampire movies and shows that are in, and goes to renaissance fairs to reminisce and wear old clothes, and carries around a shitty fliphone because it doesn’t have a camera so she has an excuse for not posting selfies.

She’s gotta keep up with tech just because she works for the red cross and they keep updating their equipment so she has to be able to still use it all.

fisto:

i really like the idea of a fantasy setting but in modern times. elves on smart phones and taking pictures for their instagram. dwarves getting into console wars and calling each other casual gamers. mages casting dangerous spells for the vine. i want it.

Cityverse: Maid Marian

Let’s shift gears and talk about the City’s newest resident: Marian Cypress AKA Cynis Mayumi.

Marian may have purple hair, but that’s where her similarities with Kiki end. More about this sweet little vixen under the cut!

-cut-

Marian’s original universe is Exalted, where she is a dynast who has fallen to an unfortunate destiny. After not exalting as a dragonblood, she is basically deemed useless by her family and is to be married off for political reasons. This hurts Marian, who has tried her whole life to be the perfect child. She runs away, staging a kidnapping, and almost makes it to a ship off the Blessed Isle when she discovers an old friend has been imprisoned because they think he had something to do with the affair. Marian breaks him free against the odds, only to Exalt as a solar, the worst thing that could happen amongst members of the Realm. Marian escapes, but keeps her identity hidden away, even from the party of other solars that she meets up with. And that is where her story truly begins.

In the City, Marian is the owner of a major corporation that was given to her by her father. She lives in a fancy house and drives a fancy car and wears only the best fashions. She is married to Gaberiel, another Exalted character created by my lovely fiance, but often is seen with her secretary Hana. Everyone knows the woman is involved with both people, but no one speaks up as she holds a lot of power within the city and Gabe doesn’t seem to mind.

Marian is a major contributor to many charities and social events in the city including Shakespeare in the park and the Boys and Girls Club. Contrary to popular belief, this is not to improve her standing in the eyes of the City, but rather to truly help it. She has an easily moved heart that loves nothing more than to help others.

At one point, she loses her riches to her younger sister and finds work at the local smoothie joint, which is in a sorry state of affairs. Using her business knowledge Marian makes the shop successful and challenges her sister for ownership of her old company.

As far as magic goes, Marian is completely normal with the exception of peculiar hair colors (Deep purple with blue streaks in the bangs). The hair color is genetic, but only because her grandparents had received the mutation from magical radiation.

I feel like this girl seems too good to be true so I’m going to end this by settling a few things. One, Marian could easily be considered a Nymphomaniac and has a gambling problem. Her gambling tends to lean more on surety of skill rather than chance. For example, she would challenge you to a game of chess and bet on herself to win. Or, she would go to a fight and bet on the fighter with a better set of skills ((Of course, if she finds out later that she lost due to rigged fighting she’ll make you pay)). Two, Marian is incredibly insecure. To Marian’s father, his business was a side project that he gave to her because it was the least he could give her. Marian spent her whole life trying to be perfect, and her family always wanted more out of her. Her perfection comes from trying hard to please everyone, and it is a drain on her. She doesn’t really know who she is and is ashamed of some of the things she truly loves to do like Embroidery and Calligraphy because there is no profit in that. If you tell her she’s anything less than perfect and why, she will work at that aspect until she is flawless. She’s afraid. She hates this persona that she carries around…but she’s too afraid to let it go. Three, the girl has no survivability. Without common comforts, she would be sunk. Don’t take her camping.
